Marinara Sauce is always great to have on hand. It is fantastic for dipping (I love it with my Sriracha Cauliflower Bites), is fantastic on pasta and can turn any plain dish into something more exciting.

Marinara or pasta sauce is something that we kind of just go buy but it is actually really easy to make and you can flavor it as you choose. Use the recipe below to create your own super simple and delicious marinara pasta sauce.

This recipe is vegan, gluten free, grain free, dairy free, extremely simple and convenient to have on hand.

Total Time: 20 minutes

Simple Healthy Marinara Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 Cup Organic Low Sodium Vegetable Broth
  • 2 Tbsp Olive Oil (or Coconut Oil)
  • 1 Cup Finely Chopped White Onion
  • 3 Crushed Cloves Garlic
  • 1/4 tsp Red Pepper Flakes
  • 2 Tbsp Organic Low Sodium Tomato Paste
  • 5 Cups Chopped, Peeled and Crushed Tomatoes (or 2 large cans of Organic Low Sodium Crushed Tomatoes)
  • 1 Tbsp Balsamic Vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp Sliced Fresh Basil
  • 1 Tbsp Chopped Fresh Oregano
  • 1/4 tsp Sea Salt
  • Freshly Ground Black Pepper (to taste)

Directions:

  1. Bring vegetable broth to a simmer in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add onion, garlic, oil, red pepper and cook until onion is translucent (approx. 5-7 minutes).
  3. Add tomato paste and cook 1 minute while stirring.
  4. Reduce heat to medium, stir in tomatoes and cook about 15 minutes to blend flavors, stirring occasionally to make sure mixture doesn’t stick to the pan.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in vinegar, basil, oregano, salt and pepper. Serve warm or chill until ready to serve.
  6. Tip - Feel free to run this through your food processor once it cools if you like a super smooth texture.
  7. Store - in a sealed-tight container in your refrigerator.

DAMY Members - You can use this sauce as a condiment (up to 1/2 cup) with any snack or meal.
