These are the best tips and tricks for how to beat the bloat and feel normal during that time of the month.
- First know that it is that time of the month and let it be okay to not feel as great as you would during other times of the month. Often times resisting, stressing and feeling sorry for ourselves makes this time worse. Do not add unneeded stress. It is not a great time but we all have to get through it monthly. Here are ways to make it much, much better:
- The longer you on are the program (for most) the more PMS symptoms decrease. This is all the more reason to stay away from sugar, added fat and processed foods. These foods only make symptoms worse.
- That time of the month do not stress about the scale but, yes, there is a lot you can do.
- First make sure to drink all your water.
- Avoid treats the week leading up. It is really hard to stay in control when your hormones are a factor.
- Eat on plan! Stick to portions and choices. This is important. Make sure you get all your veggies!! This helps with bloating.
- Avoid high sodium sauces, meals and condiments during this time. We hold water anyway during this time there is no need to add more stress to the body and mind.
- Get enough sleep. You need a little more rest during this time.
- Keep up your workouts. We may not feel like it at the start of the workout but workouts can help with everything from bloating to cramps. Keep those workouts up.
- Dandelion tea – This works great for limiting bloating. Have a cup or 2 of this herb tea the week leading up and even during if you like. It really works!
- One last tip – don’t use this as an excuse for the scale but also do not stress about the scale. To see the scale stay the same or go up a pound is considered normal the week before your period. For most people this has less effect the longer they are on the program. Often times you will see a higher weight loss the week after your period. This is just the actual number minus the water weight.
Do not stress, again, this happens to all of us. You will make it through – we always do!
