I firmly believe (if you’re on the DAMY Bikini Body, Method, or Fat Blaster you already know this) that every week you should have a treat. I’m not talking about an emotional binge or mowing down on McDonalds. I’m speaking of a planned treat. Something delicious that you don’t normally eat or drink the rest of the week (More info on how to have a treat while losing fat coming up this week!). For me every couple weeks I choose to have some wine as my treat. I love to fully relax and indulge in a glass of wine. This week I wanted something fruity without all the added sugar. Now this recipe does have some sugar but it is a healthy twist on a favourite classic. I made Strawberry-Ginger Sangria and have to share this creation with you! I even snuck in a few health benefits… tricky I know!

Strawberry-Ginger Sangria

Ingredients:

– 1 bottle of white or rose wine

I chose Hardy’s Gewürztraminer. This wine is shockingly inexpensive and has a delicious/clean taste. I highly recommend it. Don’t use anything in this recipe you wouldn’t drink on its own.

– Half a litre of natural Ginger Ale

In your natural health food section of your grocery store there are some great selections of natural “Pops.” Some of my favourite brands include Organic Blue Sky, Santa Cruz Organic, and Zevia. Now your best choice is the Zevia brand. This brand uses Stevia to sweeten their Ginger Ale. This means the drink has no sugar what-so-ever. The others use all-natural ingredients and natural sugars which are great alternatives if you can’t find the Zevia.

– 1 Bag of sliced strawberries

President’s Choice has a great inexpensive bag that is pre-sliced (I swear they don’t pay me to promote their products but honestly don’t you think they should!).

– 1/2 Cup of Apricot Brandy

To be 100% honest I chose the apricot brandy because it was inexpensive. You can choose any of the fruity brandy’s or liquor. Other great choices include orange liquor, strawberry, or raspberry flavours. I’m really happy with the way the apricot turned out. I used Bols brand.

– 2 Cups of Natural Fruit Juice

This is optional depending on how strong you like your beverage. Go for an organic fresh squeezed juice in the clear varieties as opposed to the thicker-smoothie consistencies. I used the PC Brand Pomegranate and Berry Fresh Pressed Juice. You could also use orange juice, pineapple juice or any berry flavour you like.

Strawberry-Ginger Sangria Recipe:

– 1 Bottle white or rose wine
– 1/2 Litre natural Ginger Ale
– 1 Bag frozen/sliced strawberries
– 1/2 Cup of apricot brandy
– 2 Cups of natural fruit juice

*Place all ingredients in a bowl or pitcher. Cover and refrigerate for a few hours. A good idea is to only add 1/2 of the strawberries before marinading and adding the other 1/2 before serving. Feel free to add sliced oranges, lemons, and limes. They all work wonderfully.

Enjoy!
