Happy Wednesday! Does anyone else feel like its Friday? I’ve felt like this all day, so weird. Today I’m bringing you Chickpeas Galore! There are so many ways to have roasted chickpeas. If you don’t know already I am obsessed with them! Listed are my favourite uses:
- Hash browns (picture with eggs in the morning)
- In place of croutons on my salads
- Trail mix (add nuts, seeds, dried fruit)
- Snack on their own
- In stir frys
- In soups or stews
- Side dish for dinners
I love them savory and I love them sweet. Below I have my favorite roasted chickpea recipes (fun fact – I oddly do not enjoy uncooked chickpeas. But I do love hummus and make the world best). Today David was in the mood for a sweet treat and I wanted my spicy fix so for him I made Candied Roasted Chickpeas. They turned out amazing! (Yes he was forced to share) I made my Spicy lime recipe for myself! It is a stand by for me. Here are the Candies Roasted Chickpeas and the Spicy Lime Roasted Chickpea recipes
Candied Roasted Chickpeas
- 1 can of chickpeas, rinsed, drained and patted dry
- 2 Tbsp Agave (or use Stevia for a super clean version)
- 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
- 1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp ginger
- 3/4 t. cinnamon ( or use pumpkin pie spice per packaged.)
- A dash of sea salt
Preheat oven to 375 (425 for some ovens). Combine all ingredients in a large mixing bowl until evenly coated.
Spread chickpeas on a baking sheet with sides/rim (to prevent your peas from rolling off)
Bake for 25-30 minutes depending on your oven. Stir chickpeas every ten minutes.
Spicy Lime Roasted Chickpeas
- 1 can of chickpeas, rinsed, drained and patted dry
- 2 Tbsp Hot chili sauce
- 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- Juice of 1 lime
- Dash of sea salt
Preheat oven to 350. Combine all ingredients in a large mixing bowl until evenly coated.
Spread chickpeas on a baking sheet with sides/rim (to prevent your peas from rolling off)
Bake for 25-30 minutes depending on your oven. Stir chickpeas every ten minutes.
Here are my other favorite ways to flavor my chickpeas.
SPICEY/SAVOURY
*Roasted garlic, lime juice and hot chilli sauce
*Soy sauce, sesame oil, chilli powder
*tomato juice and curry powder
*Chipotle powder, sea salt, smoked paprika
*Garlic powder, chilli powder, dash of sea salt
SWEET
*Cinnamon and agave or (stevia for sugar free version)
*Maple syrup, pumpkin pie spice, sea salt
No matter what recipe you choose always use 1-2 Tbsp of olive oil to prevent the inside of the chickpeas from becoming dry. Follow the recipes above for measurement guidelines but have fun with this and spice your chickpeas to your desired taste. As long as the ingredients are healthy (natural) have fun and try it out! You really can’t go wrong with these amazing little peas!
I love roasted chickpeas! They are surprisingly delicious. My favorite way is with a little garlic and olive oil.
I absolutely LOVE them Laura. You’ll have to try some of the recipes and let me know what you think!
I love chickpeas. I will definitely have to try some of these recipes.
That is wonderful! I know you will love them. Let me know how you enjoy them!
What about using chickpeas from the dried ones? Soaking and cooking the chickpeas first.
you can use them if you choose. All are fine.
I just made a “sweet with heat” variation. I seasoned them with stevia, chipotle chili powder, red pepper flakes, smoked paprika and a dash of sea salt. Amazing!!!
omg Ev, that sounds unreal!!! Thank you so much for sharing. I am going to make those!!!
Hope you are having a great night.
You are the best!
AMY!!! these are awesome!! I just made the cinnomin nutmeg ones. Alittle odd , just because you dont think the flavors will go together, I love the idea of them. I just put the other half can in the oven with chili powder sea salt garlic and and curry powder and they smell great! I think i will like the savory ones the best, but im really surprised at how wonderful and sweet little treats they turned out to be!! Thank you! <3..
I love to hear it Shawna!! Thank you for stopping by and sharing the love!! You are soooo welcome!! Hope you are having a great day!
I must admit that these were not a huge hit with me at first. I thought “roasted” meant (in my mind) that they would come out crunchy (since I had never eaten a chickpea before I had no idea what to expect). I really liked the toppings but it reminded me of a regular green pea for the texture and the inside consistency (and that is one veggie I cannot eat….unless raw from the garden) I ate some warm and bagged the rest. I put them in the fridge and I must say, they tasted MUCH better to me that way. I will make them again…they get addictive after a few handfuls…only this time I’ll put on garlic and leave out the vinegar. Thanks Amy <3
Im on DAMY method day 2 and feeling fabulous! I made the spicy lime roasted chickpeas – they are SUPERB. Addicting. I’m going to have to ration these out, lol. My mom came home hours after I made it and said, “something smells delicious!” I’m trying to find a few favorites for each of the meals to rotate throughout the week and this one definitely made it into the rotation. Cant wait to try your other recipes!
spicy lime roasted chickpeas= delicious!
Thank you so much for the comment-love 🙂 Glad you loved them!
Can these roasted chickpeas be stored? I loved them right after I made them, but they were kind of soggy the next day (I just left them in a bowl on the counter). How do I keep them from going soggy?
What’s considered the serving size for a snack?
