The Protein Bar – What’s Good and What’s Not

Pumpkin Cranberry Almond Protein BarWelcome to Day 18 in our series 31 Tips to a Healthier You!

Today’s lesion is all about protein bars. Many people turn to protein bars for a quick fix but what they don’t understand is many of these bars contain more sugar than a chocolate bar and contain chemicals and additives in large amounts.

Many of these bars could actually be holding your weight loss back and preventing you from reaching your goals!

What to Watch Out For in a Protein Bar

Protein bars seem like a great snack choice when we are in a hurry right? Well, not so much. Before consuming anything prepackaged you should be checking to see what the ingredients are. I want you to be only consuming natural ingredients and low-sugar options for your snacks!

Here is a list of ingredients to watch out for when checking the packaging on your protein bars (do not eat anything with these ingredients!):

  • Corn Syrup
  • White Sugar (or any added sugar – the only sugar you should be consuming is from dried fruits)
  • Sucralose
  • Aspartame
  • Artificial Flavors
